Afterward,
we went to 7-eleven to buy drinks, since it was excruciatingly hot
there. 7-eleven is definitely the winner of the most ubiquitous mini-mart
in Taipei. You could look, literally, anywhere and see a 7-eleven
nearby! Anyway, instead of walking back to the subway station, we
took the bus back and made our way to the seafood place, where the
famous crab dish was. Unfortunately, it was just our luck that the
owner of the establishment decided to take the day off which really
made us upset and dismayed. Instead, we ate at this other place and
ate noodles, three types of balls (fish, beef, and mushroom), and
something else that doesn’t have an English translation (à
ga).
Finishing lunch, we took the subway back. We made two transfers and
made our stop at the technology building. My aunt told me an interesting
fact about the subways. There were two types of subways in Taiwan.
The bigger, better subway was built by the Germans, while the smaller,
more poorly air conditioned subway was built by the French. We then
took a bus back to my grandparent’s place, but we first made
a stop at this art studio that my aunt wanted Da-Quan to attend. The
place served free tea, which tasted delicious! At my grandparent’s
place, we picked up Da-Chien and took my grandparents to church. They
apparently had a meeting or get together with the pastor.
From there we went to pick up Da-Ging from school. I just have to
mention here that Da-Ging’s school uniform really looks like
a sailor suit. Da-Ging talks a lot and is quite adroit in his Chinese.
When we arrived back at my aunt’s place, I took care of Da-Chien
and rested up afterwards.

When it was time for dinner, my uncle decided
he would take me to a local Thai restaurant for dinner. Since
I had mentioned that I liked spicy foods, they decided to take
me there. The three kids went along and I have to say that taking
care of and keeping in check three kids is a lot of work. They
were noisy, talkative, running and horsing around, biting, kicking,
screaming, everything! The littlest of them all couldn’t
and wouldn’t stay seated in his high chair and had to be
forced down every time he tried to climb onto the dinner table.
As for dinner, the food at the Thai restaurant tasted delicious
and I enjoyed the food very much. We took a light stroll afterwards
to help digest the food we ate, and we bought milk pearl tea along
the way which tasted very good. I got to carry Da-Chien on my
back by using this baby carrier that you wear like a backpack.
I had fun carrying him and we eventually arrived back at the apartment.
At the apartment, I called my second uncle telling him that I
would see him in Taichung, later in the week. Before going to
sleep, I found that Da-Ging and I shared a similar interest in
the Harry Potter series and we chatted lightly about the characters
in the book. In addition, Da-Ging and Da-Quan really loves playing
Aladdin. Thus ends the second day here in Taiwan.
