Today
was a relatively slow day. There wasn’t much to do in the morning
except eat breakfast. It was a simple breakfast consisting of toast
and a hard-boiled egg. My grandma was the only one up. I believe my
third uncle and his wife were still asleep. Grandma offered to take
me to the Tainan Park for a walk and, so, I obliged. We took a shortcut
to the park.
Arriving there, I noticed that there were many people dancing in makeshift
dance floors where somebody brought their Karaoke machine to play
the music. Grandma told me that she would go walking in this park
every morning. The people that were dancing seemed happy as they swayed
and bobbed to the music. As we walked through the park, there were
some people in the park that my grandma apparently knew, and she pointed
me out to each one of them. I just politely said hi. During our walk,
we came to a lake where someone had built a walkway across it. In
the middle was a temple. This structure was built, according to my
grandma, in memory of the builder’s mother, which I thought
was sweet. After taking some pictures there, we continued onward.
I saw some randomly hung Christmas decorations. I think somebody was
too lazy to take down these adornments. At one of our stops in the
park, I saw several hundred mini-flags draped from ropes that were
bound to trees. I wasn’t sure what the purpose of the flags
was. I think it may have been for some celebration before.

Maybe
somebody had forgotten to take down the flags. There were several
people sleeping in the park as well as some stray dogs wandering around.
As we were leaving the park, I saw this strange sign with Mickey Mouse
on it, picking up litter. I just found it funny and strange to see
that in the park.
When we finally got home, we awaited the arrival of
my first uncle or my mom’s oldest brother. During the wait,
my third uncle again asked a bunch of questions up to when my first
uncle arrived. I was glad to see him and I thought that he looked
very relaxed and youthful. He was going to take me back up to Taipei
that very day. I could tell though, that he was in a hurry. He was
rushing around a lot because he had some business to take care of
in Tainan, which included taking a picture of a calligraphy drawing
hung up in grandpa’s room. We quickly took pictures and hurried
off to lunch. My first uncle was pushing everyone to get ready, quickly!
My third uncle and his wife took the motorcycle while grandma, first
uncle, and I took the taxi. We also brought someone else along with
us who was a friend of my grandma’s. I think I saw her before
in America though I can’t pinpoint the exact time or place I
saw her. She apparently remembered me.
The taxi driver we had was quite an unpleasant fellow.
We hailed his taxi and he stopped even though he still had a passenger
inside.
