He
at first offered to come back really quickly after dropping his passenger
off, but the passenger, graciously, let us have the taxi and got off
where the taxi stopped. I think my grandma was very thankful for this.
The driver, however, didn’t seem to like that and he even declared
to us that he lost five dollars because he stopped for us and let
his previous passenger get off early. I’m surprised nobody told
him off or even countered by saying he should be even more grateful
that he got more passengers so quickly. The driver even went as far
as to say that old people were not as useful as younger people or
something to that effect. This prompted my grandma and her friend
to make some scolding rebuttals to the driver. I wanted to tell him
to shut up and drive. Anyway, we got to the restaurant and quickly
went up to the 11th floor to have lunch.
Lunch consisted of Dim Sum and I enjoyed it no less. We took several
pictures. My first uncle, being in the great hurry that he was in,
said that it was time to go after eating for about an hour. I said
goodbye to my third uncle, his wife, and my grandma and took off with
my first uncle to the bus stop. We walked there and arrived early,
even though we took a wrong turn at one point. The bus we had was
relatively comfortable. The seats were wide enough and there were
TV screens for us to watch movies on. The ride up to Taipei was going
to take about four hours.

My
first uncle and I engaged in light conversation about many different
topics. Unlike my third uncle, he doesn’t seem to seek to impress
me or inundate me with random questions.
Movies were put on during the trip. The movies were
pretty old, but they were also movies I had not seen before. Unfortunately,
the sound was turned off as to not disturb passengers that wanted
to sleep. The first movie was Turbulence, which pretty much is about
a plane that is taken over by a madman after the pilots are killed
off. The heroine has to evade the psycho as well as land the plane
safely; typical Hollywood movie. The bus made a brief bathroom break
in Taichung. Another movie was also put on, which was Robinson Crusoe.
This movie was slightly more entertaining than the last. Like the
novel, this is about some guy who gets stranded on an island and lives
there for a long time. During his stay, he befriends a Black native
whom he names Friday. The recurring theme is about the relationship
between the white man and the black man. There was also a short documentary
put on about Huei-An, a place that I had visited when my family went
to China.
Four hours later, when we got to Taipei, we took the
taxi back to my grandparent’s apartment.
