Today
is a day of mourning for my country. I truly feel sympathy for those
who lost loved ones in last year’s September 11 attacks. I hope
that those who would attack us so all because of what we stand for
will be captured and brought to justice and that the freedoms and
ideals that my country stands for will continue to prevail.
When I got up, my grandma and grandpa decided to take
me to a place to once again drink soybean milk and fried fritters.
We walked to the small eatery and I ordered myself chilled soybean
milk, glutinous carrot cake, and a biscuit. While walking back, my
grandpa pointed out some building to me and said that this was a building
where materials were translated. Anyway, back at the apartment, my
first uncle called and said that I should meet him outside of the
apartment in half an hour. I waited outside and he came to pick me
up on a bike. I found it funny that he was riding a bike, but he said
that we were really going to take the MRT. While he biked, he told
me to walk straight down a road to the MRT station. Before, my aunt
and I took the bus. However, I realized that the station really wasn’t
all that far from grandpa’s apartment. After getting there,
we took the MRT to the National Palace Museum. Actually, we had to
stop at a station and then take a taxi there. The taxi driver was
dressed very formally. He was an old gentleman with gloves on and
wearing a dress shirt.

When
we arrived at the museum, I gazed in awe at the huge museum. The driver
dropped us off at the museum entrance. I asked my first uncle to take
pictures of me and, so, he did. He told me that this was for my memories
and not for his, so he didn’t need pictures of himself. Inside,
my first uncle bought tickets. He realized that he didn’t need
to buy a ticket for himself since he was retired. However, by that
time, it was too late and he had already bought the ticket. There
was a booth inside where you could buy a walking audio tour for the
museum. My first uncle bought me one. The device seemed like a cell
phone. All you had to do was enter in the number of the display and
you could listen to the prerecorded audio description of the artifact
on display. There were many exhibits to behold. The first exhibit
gave a timeline for the entire history of China and where each artifact
came in the timeline. My first uncle seemed to feel the need to explain
everything to me in great detail, which I appreciated. I pretty much
got the same information out of the audio device. I found the jade
exhibits to be the most interesting. They truly were sculpted with
great precision and detail. I also thought the calligraphy was done
well too. Some were written with such great precision that they looked
like they were typed up. Unfortunately, flash photography was not
allowed, so we couldn’t take many pictures. However, I could
record with my video camera. First uncle seemed very knowledgeable
about most of China’s history. |
