I
woke up early this morning because we were all going to get ready
to head out to Taichung. Since our flight to Kaohsiung was canceled,
we had arranged with my second uncle to meet there instead. My second
uncle is my mom’s second oldest brother. Originally the plan
was to fly to Kaohsiung and then, from there, someone would pick me
up and take me to Tainan. Then, someone would take me to Taichung
and then back to Taipei. I got a call from my mom this morning regarding
what I was up to and I told her that our plans had changed. When we
were all ready, we left for Taichung. The rain seemed to have subsided
a bit. According to the meteorologists, the hurricane was idling just
north of Taiwan. It was slowing down and they predicted that, now,
it wouldn’t even reach the island’s inland. This didn’t
seem to stop people from parking their cars on the bridges though.
Apparently, since the last time Taiwan was flooded, the people were
concerned about their vehicles getting wet and so they got permission
from the government to park their cars on the bridges and other high
places. I just found it bizarre to see so many cars parked on the
side of the road on the bridges.
Along the way, we stopped at a rest stop, which had a little flower
garden and a windmill. There was also a swing where up to four people
could sit in and swing to their heart’s content. The three kids
seemed to enjoy this very much. I took a few pictures there, and we
all had ourselves a bar of Snickers. Driving further down, we reached
our destination: Taichung.

As
we waited for my second uncle, we played on this playground. Da-Chien
seemed to enjoy playing on this very much. Finally, my second uncle
and his wife arrived to meet us there. I was glad to see them again.
We ate at a restaurant near the playground. My second uncle told me
this was western Chinese style that we were eating. I thought that
it tasted good, though the coconut juice, I found, wasn’t all
that great.
After lunch, we went to the Taichung Science Museum.
Second science museum this trip! My second uncle and wife didn’t
go in as they only showed us the way there. We bought tickets and
went to watch a 3-D movie. Actually, we watched two 3-D movies. The
first film was a film that only had music playing in the background.
The movie starts with a submarine battle, and then leads to the submarine
crew discovering a lost city, which then transports them back in time
to an era where ancient Chinese vessels were sailing and weird dinosaur
like creatures swam. This was a computer animated feature. All in
all, well animated, and the 3-D effects were awesome to behold. Da-Quan
tried ducking out of the way of a huge swimming otter-like animal.
The second film was a more different from the first one. First of
all, it didn’t seem like it was filmed to be seen in 3-D. There
was nothing that popped up or gave a perspective that you could feel
that you were in the picture.
