Today,
I began my day by studying for the GRE and then going online to find
that nobody was on and so I checked my E-mail. This morning, grandma
was going to come to the apartment to look after Da-Chien while my
aunt and I went out. When my grandma arrived, my aunt gave me a swimmer’s
cap and goggles for swimming. We were going to go swim at a sports
club. The club was within walking distance, as were most places in
Taiwan.
The club was located underground, beneath another building. The place
had the typical accommodations that frequent a health club; a weight
room, treadmills, bicycles, etc. After changing into our swimming
suits, we jumped into the swimming pool. I was given a locker where
I could put my dry clothes. They key came on a Velcro strap that I
could wrap around my wrist so I wouldn’t lose the key. The swimming
pool was surprisingly warm and shallow. There were only four to five
lanes and people would share lanes. Swimmers would always swim down
the right side of the lane. In addition to the swimming pool, there
were several spas or jacuzzis. One of the spas poured down water out
of pipes which acted as massagers when a person stood underneath it.
There was another one that shot jets of water at an angle. Others
were the typical bubbling of water that massaged the whole body. I
liked best the standard hot spa that just bubbled water and you could
just sit there and relax for hours on end. After swimming for two
hours, we got up and took showers. While taking the shower, there
was this really annoying song on the PA system, which talked about
the sound of love. I just found it to be really sophomoric and cheesy.

We
then went back to the apartment to pick up Da-Chien and grandma for
lunch. We were going to go eat hot pot. To be accurate, it was called
spicy hot pot. While trying to find parking, my aunt accidentally
backed the car into a scooter causing it to fall over. Not too surprisingly,
the owner of the scooter didn’t mind that much and even moved
his scooter to accommodate my aunt’s big car. Inside, Uncle
Huei and Da-Ging were also there too. The meal was delicious. Da-Ging
loved the bird eggs while I quite enjoyed the crab. Grandma thought
this little shop gave a good meal for such a low price. There was
even watermelon and sherbert ice cream afterward to eat. I think I
ate too much. Uncle Huei had to leave early for work.
After lunch, I went back to my uncle’s apartment to pick up
my camera and then went over to my grandparent’s apartment since
I was going to spend the afternoon with my grandpa. I rested up a
little and then grandpa got ready to take me to the National Museum
of History and the National Taiwan Science Education Center. Grandpa
and I took the bus and then walked the rest of the way to the museums.
We first went into the history museum, which had all kinds of pottery,
ancient Chinese artifacts, and ancient Chinese calligraphy on display.
There was also a small section on Chinese history. It was interesting
to behold Chinese history. The science museum I found to be more interesting.
Even though most of the exhibits were outdated, didn’t work,
or were malfunctioning, it was still a fun museum to play in. One
exhibit was of balls that dropped into slots that created a statistically
normal curve. |
